Organizes and runs fraternity formal and informal recruitment for interested students.
Sets standards, rules, and policies to ensure the safety of chapters and their members, as well as compliance with university policies.
Teaches leadership skills and runs education programs for members.
Organizes council-wide charity events and community service opportunities.
Acts as the liaison between the university, national fraternity groups, and the recognized fraternities on campus.
Overall, the IFC gives fraternities the rules, resources, and help they need to improve student life on campus.
General info
-
The Interfraternity Council is a student-led governing body that represents and advocates for fraternities recognized by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Serving as the primary liaison between campus administration and chapter leadership, the IFC facilitates communication, upholds shared standards, coordinates recruitment and educational programming, and supports member chapters in fostering leadership, accountability, and community engagement.
-
The Interfraternity Council works alongside the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (OSFL) at the University of Tennessee. The OSFL staff serve as advisors to our executive committee.
We partner with the campus multicultural councils to support each other, programming collaborative events, and working together to strengthen and uplift our community as a whole.
-
IFC holds elections in the late fall via a slating process. The slate consists of representatives from each chapter, where a previous IFC executive member can be chosen for their chapterβs representative. If there is no IFC executive member for that chapter, that chapter can elect any of their members to represent them for the slate.
The slate will vote as a whole on each position, where the chapter presidents can veto a slate decision if decided. If a decision is vetoβed, the slate will pick another applicant.
